About the Event
This World Bee Day, we are celebrating the incredible diversity of British Columbia’s native bees — more than 500 species of them!
From metallic mason bees to fuzzy longhorns, hardworking sweat bees to sneaky cuckoo bees, BC’s native bees are diverse, fascinating, and essential to healthy ecosystems. Now, we want all of British Columbia to discover and celebrate them too.
That’s why we’re excited to launch the very first BC’s Favourite Native Bee Campaign — a province-wide public vote in support of the BC Bee Atlas.
Beginning May 20, on World Bee Day, and continuing through Pollinator Week, the public will have the chance to learn about and vote for one of five remarkable native bee candidates. The winning bee will be crowned on June 28!
Will you support:
The Bumbler — championed by Matt Young
The Craftsperson — championed by Gwen Williams
The Misunderstood Villain — championed by Elaine Sedgman
The Builder — championed by Lori Weidenhammer
The Poison-Powered Pollinator — championed by Emily Carmichael
Voting will be live at 7 PM!
