The Native Bee Society of BC is Looking for New Board Members for 2027!

NBSBC is an incorporated not-for-profit society and an affiliate club of BC Nature. We are a collective of native bee researchers, artists, land managers, conservation practitioners, and enthusiasts working to promote the conservation of native bees in British Columbia.

NBSBC is currently looking for 1-2 passionate volunteers living in British Columbia to join our dedicated Board of Directors as Members at Large. You don’t need prior expertise in native bees—what matters most is your enthusiasm and commitment to supporting the Society’s mission. Onboarding and training will be provided.

Members-at-Large – Fundraising & Publicity

NBSBC is working to expand its Board’s fund development and marketing functions. Fundraising plays a vital role in helping us grow, and reaching audiences who can support our revenue generating efforts is key. If you are passionate about any of the following tasks or have experience in these roles, we would love to hear from you.

  • Lead our digital marketing strategy, including website SEO (on-page, off-page, and technical) and event marketing & publicity.

  • Lead and/or support fundraising initiatives, including grants, campaigns, donations, sponsorships, and events.

  • Contribute creativity and enthusiasm in promoting the Society’s work.

Commitment

The NBSBC Board is a rewarding opportunity to join a community of people working to protect native bees in BC. Board members play a key role in supporting the Society’s mission by shaping the direction of our Society while supporting native bee conservation.

Time & Participation

The average commitment is 5+ volunteer hours per month throughout the year. This includes attending a monthly board meeting (1.5 hours) and contributing to committee work that aligns with your interests (3.5+ hours). Board members are expected to take on specific action items each month, balancing the evolving needs of the Society with their individual capacity.

Collaboration & Communication

Reliable internet access is important, as most of our collaboration happens remotely through Zoom, Slack, Google Drive, and email. We value teamwork—board members should be comfortable working independently, engaging in collaborative discussions, and helping guide the Society’s strategic direction.

Membership & Terms

All board members must be members in good standing with the Society and meet eligibility requirements under the BC Societies Act.

  • Members-at-Large positions require at least a 1-year commitment (Nov 2026 → Nov 2027).

How to apply

If you’re interested in joining the Board, we’d love to hear from you! Please submit an email to chair@bcnativebees.org along with

  • A short bio and photo (to be shared on our Candidates page)

  • A cover letter introducing yourself and explaining why you’d like to serve as a Board Director with NBSBC.

All nominations must be received by November 2. Board elections will be held during our Annual General Meeting on November 23.

NBSBC is committed to equity and inclusion. Members of racialized groups and Indigenous communities, persons with disabilities, persons of diverse sexual orientations and gender identities, and others with the skills and knowledge to engage with diverse communities are encouraged to apply.
